At the close of each worship service, we sing the Hymn of Invitation-Response. At
this time we look expectantly for people who may come forward to indicate their
desire to join the church fellowship~-by profession of faith in Jesus Christ as
Savior and Lord, and subsequent baptism by immersion; by transfer of letter from
another Baptist church; by reaffirmation of faith; by immersion from another
Christian church; by believer's baptism; by watchcare membership as an associate
member.
Those persons who come forward will be introduced to the congregation and will be
welcomed as new members. Members are not voted upon by our church because we
believe it is God's church, and He alone calls persons into our place of service
and worship. Our responsibility is simply to welcome them with open hearts, and
support them prayerfully as they are assimilated into the ministry of our church
family. New members will be asked to sign the church membership roll and to attend
a new member seminar led by the Pastor which will help a new member understand the
beginnings of Oakmont Baptist Church. It will also discuss Baptist history, policy,
organization, beliefs, and how we incorporate these Baptist traditions into the
unique organizational life of our church's ministry.
We take very seriously the whole matter of membership in the church. It is a
deeply significant decision, and we do not encourage people to make it casually,
without knowing something of the character and spirit of Oakmont Baptist Church.
If you wish further information or would like a conference with the Pastor, please
call the church office, 756-1245.
