Currently Oakmont has 33 deacons who are elected to serve a rotating, four year term. In addition, we have two life-time deacons - Mr. E.R. "Pete" Carraway and Mr. Tracy McLaurin, selected because of their outstanding service to Oakmont.
Our deacons serve on one of seven deacon ministry teams: hospital team, homebound team, bereavement team, crisis/benevolence team, prayer team, discernment team, or conflict resolution team. In addition, our deacons are also specifically assigned to serve on a number of our church-wide teams such as personnel, stewardship, property and space, and the missions team.
Deacons are elected by the congregation based on a study list sent to the membership in August of each year. Final elections occur on the second Sunday of September, and Deacons are installed and ordained on the last Sunday of September.
Deacons must be 25 years of age and be a resident member for one year.
