I was born in Macon, Georgia in 1987 and a few years later my family relocated to North Carolina. I spent my childhood living all over the state, never really attending church except for the occasional Vacation Bible School every few years. Though I had strong Christian influence from my grandmother and others, it was not until December of my eighth grade year that I finally gave my life to Christ.
Over the next five years, God began to develop my calling to ministry through involvement in youth groups as well as with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Upon graduation from Smithfield Selma High School in 2005, I felt a strong call to Campbell University and so I moved to Buies Creek for undergraduate education. It was during my undergraduate time at Campbell that I really felt God calling me to further my education and explore my call in a Divinity School setting. After graduating with my Bachelor’s of the Arts in Religion and Philosophy in 2009, I entered the Campbell University Divinity School. I am currently in my third year with hopes to graduate in 2013.
In 2005 I had the opportunity to enter the ministry and serve as Youth Pastor at Bells Baptist Church in Apex, NC. After a great time of growth and ministry at Bells, I moved and began a new ministry as the Youth Pastor at Baptist Chapel Church in Autryville, NC and in 2008 moved to Raleigh and became the Youth Pastor at Plymouth Baptist Church. These opportunities to serve really helped shape my calling and, mixed with my experiences at Campbell, were used by God to solidify my calling into Youth and College Ministry. I joined the staff at Oakmont as the College Ministry Intern in August 2011. My position is a joint effort between Oakmont and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North Carolina. My responsibilities include working with the college students at Oakmont as well as with the college ministries at other Baptist churches in Greenville and on the campuses of East Carolina and Pitt Community College. I also will oversee the Intentional College Community at Oakmont Square Apartments when it begins sometime in the next year.
Through my involvement with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, I met my wife Heather and we married in May 2008. We have a small dog named Maggie that keeps us busy!
When I am not working and hanging out with college students or in class myself, I like to watch sports, read, spend time with friends, go to the beach or camping and pull for UNC athletics.
