Music Staff

   Alisa Gilliam

Pianist

After receiving a Master's degree in Piano Performance from ECU, I stayed in Greenville and freelanced as a piano teacher, accompanist and church musician. In 1994, my husband, Jim, and I joined the Oakmont music staff and served here together until he accepted another job in 2000.  Shortly after coming to Oakmont I joined the faculty of the ECU Music Department as accompanist.  Along with our 3 children we are blessed to call Oakmont our church home.

Organist

I am originally from the small town of Kershaw in South Carolina. I grew up with church as a part of my life and always was involved in music in church and school. My mom was the pianist at my home church of Center Grove, so I was always at choir practice with her or singing solos, even before I knew how to read. We were always at church. So, I guess, in that regard I’m like a PK, Preacher’s Kid.  My mom still serves as organist at Center Grove.

My love for music has allowed me to wear many hats: drum major, piano teacher, voice teacher, pianist, interim music minister, choir member, soloist, organist, elementary school music teacher, middle school music teacher and high school choral director. I have been the choral director at Rose High School since 1996.  I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts/Vocal Performance degree from the College of Charleston and received my Master of Music Education degree from East Carolina University.  In addition to being the organist at Oakmont, I am accompanist for the orchestra, a member of the Chancel Choir, and the Joyful Sounds Women’s Ensemble.  I love to play the piano and the organ, but singing is still my first love. My husband Bill and I have three children: Amanda, David, and Melissa; one son-in-law, Evan; one granddaughter, Hollace; a dog named Toledo (to-lay-do); and a cat named Amos.  My family and I have been blessed to call Oakmont home since 1993.
