Rev. Eric Porterfield

Eric Porterrfield has served as Oakmont's Senior Pastor since February of 2023. He is married to the Rev. Alicia Davis Porterfield and they have three young adult sons. He is a native of Greensboro, NC, and a graduate of Wofford College and Duke Divinity School. Prior to Oakmont, he served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Sanford, NC, Winter Park Baptist Church, Wilmington, NC, and Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, Huntington, WV. He loves reading and hiking with Alicia and any activity he gets to enjoy with their boys.
Dr. Laurie Lee Cosby

Laurie Lee Cosby has enjoyed worship arts since high school when as a PK, she began singing in her dad’s church. Laurie graduated with a Doctor of Worship Studies from Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies. She also has a Master of Music from the University of Tulsa and a Bachelor of Music Education from Dallas Baptist University. Her ministries have included worship leadership, teaching, and directing choir, handbells, and orchestra in academic and church settings, most recently serving at East Texas Baptist University and First Baptist Church of Longview. Laurie has served as guest lecturer in higher education institutions including Campbell Divinity School on intergenerational worship. Laurie is married to Dave Cosby, and they enjoy spending time on the water and cooking. They share life with their entertaining cat, Rambo.
Rev. Ben Gurganus

Ben serves as the Minister to Youth and Children at Oakmont. In this role, he is passionate about helping children and youth discover who God has made them to be, while also helping them to explore what a relationship with Jesus looks like in their own lives. At the core of this ministry, Ben hopes that all kids will know that they are loved and welcomed by God, just as they are.
Ben is also a proud graduate of Campbell University, having earned both his Undergraduate and Master’s Degree from there. Outside of ministry, Ben enjoys golfing, hunting, and watching the Carolina Hurricanes. He also loves spending time with his wife, Jessica, their two boys, Wyatt and Sheppard, and his Golden Retriever, Waffles.
Rev. Alicia Porterfield

Rev. Alicia Davis Porterfield serves as our Minister of Missions, facilitating our various ways of serving God and neighbor locally and globally. A Georgia native and UGA grad, she earned two degrees from Duke University Divinity School. There she met and married a North Carolina boy, Eric Porterfield. Ordained in 1997, Alicia has served as a Board-certified healthcare and eldercare chaplain, curriculum writer, interim pastor and associate pastor. She and Eric have three young adult sons who bring much love, laughter, and learning to their lives. Reading, writing, singing, and exploring God’s creation are some of her favorite things.

Lauri Johnson is a native of Lincoln, Nebraska, and has lived in Greenville since 1989. She joined our staff as an administrative assistant in 1992, and has kept us organized ever since! She loves sewing and college sports, especially ECU baseball.
Wayne Taylor

Wayne Taylor is a native of Martin County and a retired Troop Commander with the North Carolina Highway Patrol. He joined our staff in 2003 as a part-time sexton and has been in his current position of facilities manager for 15 years. He is married to Becky, they have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. He enjoys time at the beach and running with his friends.
Nicole Davis

Nicole Davis joined our staff in June of 2025 as our Educational Ministries Secretary. A native North Carolinian, her father was a pastor and much of her career has been in the social work field, giving her lifelong experience in church and great skills for helping people. She is married to Kevin and they have one son, who is a student at NC State.
Jimmy Weaver

Jimmy Weaver helps take care of our facilities as our full-time sexton. He was born and raised in Richlands and has spent many years in the auto parts industry. He is married to Kelly and they have 3 energetic boys! He joined our staff in December of 2021.
