Senior Adults
Senior Adult Ministries
High energy! Deep love for Jesus and neighbor! Love for each other and dedication to our life together! These are just a few ways to describe our Senior Adult Ministry. In addition to participating in our larger ministries, from afterschool tutoring to being prayer partners with our children to faithful presence in worship, see below for descriptions of our many specific Senior Adult ministries. Through our Senior Adult Ministry council, and through so many wonderful volunteers who give tirelessly of their time and effort, we are honored to be part of what God is doing in and through our seniors. To learn more about these ministries or to see the latest schedule of events, please contact the church office.
JOY Singers
On most Thursday mornings during the fall, winter, and spring, you’ll find senior adults singing, laughing, and praising God through the JOY Singers Choir. “JOY” stands for “Just Older Youth,’ and this group’s energy and joy reflects their name.
After putting together a program over several weeks of rehearsals, the JOY Singers make Thursday visits to area nursing homes and retirement communities, blessing the residents with songs about Jesus and fun songs from their generation. The JOY Singers also occasionally sing in worship.
There’s always room for more voices; please join us!
Senior Adult Lunch Brunch and Coffee Talk
On the fourth Tuesday of each month, senior adults gather for lunch at the church Fellowship Hall (we bring our own lunch, with desserts and drinks provided) or we meet at a local restaurant. Occasionally when we meet at church we have speakers and programs of interest to seniors. This “lunch bunch” is a great bunch to be part of!
On the first Tuesday morning of each month, we gather at 9:30 in the Fellowship Hall for “Coffee Talk,” a time for conversation, coffee, and biscuits. It’s a great way to start the morning with our church family in a relaxed atmosphere, asking God to go with us throughout the day.
As you can tell, we love to eat together! And we love to gather for fellowship. We would love for you to join the fun.
Senior Adult Trips
In addition to JOY Singers’ visits to area nursing homes and retirement communities, we take regular day trips to nearby locations. We recently visited the planetarium in Grifton, and we take an annual shopping trip to the outlet malls in Smithfield. Our most recent overnight trip was to the Amish Country in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, which included seeing a performance at the Sight and Sound Theater.
Be on the lookout for future trips!
